Social Downsizing

Electronic communication has become a drunkard’s hotbed of embarrassment.
Drunk dialing has gone the way of the dinosaurs. Now it’s the drunk texting, drunk IM’ing, drunk emailing, drunk Twittering and drunk blogging that stumbles higher up the charts for the best way to make an ass of yourself. Doesn’t anyone just stay home, keep to themselves and rot with the bottle like Bukowski used to? Those were the days…
I barely drink at all anymore, save for the occasional vodka blow-out, which happens maybe once (ok, twice or thrice…) a month. Remaining relatively dry has helped me manage a wonderful regimen of Social Downsizing!
In recent weeks, I bailed on my personal MySpace page, ditched my call-waiting, cut-off the email & IM on my cell and, while I was at it, I canceled HBO and Showtime too! I’ll be saving not only time but more than $100 a month! The cable though, well, when DEXTER comes back, I’ll be back as well! But I doubt I’ll be returning to the rest of it.
I made an announcement to my closest “real space” friends that I’ve now happily DEVOLVED into a more peaceful time on earth. A time where I can once again be the mysterious loner I was years ago, before all this cyber chatter invaded my life. I told them I’m kaput on the artificial communiqués, but up for “going out” more and living like people used to- a cave, a rock and a stick is all you need, to have a good time.
Of course, if you make plans with friends it still involves a series of emails, calls and texts about how
- “traffix cra-z”
but will
- “c u soon.”
It’s hard to fully bypass the electronic “middle man” of friendship, and I worry that it might get lonely without all the pings, rings and electric blings.
Still, I love having more hours in the day to make music, write fiction, rattle out a few sober blogs or screw off in the yard with a great cup of coffee and an empty head. Peace. I’m free! I don’t know how many of you have tried this Social Downsizing, but it just might be the next big thing. Email all your friends about it for me, won’t you?

First of all: Awesome picture. I think it really would make a great MySpace 1 headed dog profile avatar - but then again, anal as Tom can be, it might violate one of their terms as you can see alccohol in it. Or wait- it was nudity they have a problem with- not drugs or alcohol. Alright - forget everything I just said…
Electronic Downsizing, the next thing?
GOOD idea. From time to time I have the blurry vision of me sitting on a porch, with nothing but a book in my left hand and a nice juicy alcohol-free cocktail in the other being nothing but happy - and that totally without any of the aforementioned electronic devices around me… And I picture myself totally having a good time …- but the question is - for how long?
I think I can easily live without phone/cellphone (I never answer calls anyways - unless its at work -and texting to me is a total pain) but I am a TV junkie and if I cant have email or internet- I get cranky.
I would love to have a little break from time to time though but Im not sure if I could do without it for ever ever. I need my daily ration of passive distraction!
I’m curious about the outcome of your field test though. Let me know if you feel first signs of withdrawel, I still have an old mobile phone that I could send over to you!

Well, i for one am of the old school, trying not to rot, but still fermenting in my thoughts with my vice of choice which happens to be that beautiful full bottle of vino blanco…or two… That’s me. I love my thoughts, i love my wine, and i love home. alone.
and…i love meeting new people who are interesting enough to
make socializing worth the effort, but few they are.
Hmmmm, devolving..yes. We’re in a sad world scrambling frantically in the opposite direction of spirit. but oh, i really do love the backlash.
Well anyways, You will always be the only one that makes life bearable for you, and lucky you are to be smart, beautiful, talented and free.

Funny blog Ctk, but Why are your boobs so big in this picture? Don’t get me wrong, I like it both ways (no pun intended) (is there a pun?). Just curious!

Just curious about what? Puns or Boobs?
Anyways…
Great question Clay, I guess. It’s called a push-up bra (Not recommended for people who are afraid of heights.)
